Amec joins forces offshore with Samsung

Amec has announced that it has formed a joint venture with Samsung Heavy Industries and Samsung Engineering to carry out the design and engineering for fixed and floating offshore platforms and subsea pipelines for Samsung’s future offshore oil and gas projects.

Amec has said that the joint venture will bring together its engineering capability and extensive experience in offshore projects and Samsung’s leading project management expertise and shipbuilding technology.

The US-based joint venture will trade under the name of Amec Samsung Oil and Gas (ASOG) and will be 49% owned by Amec. Samsung has said that it intends to use ASOG for future front end engineering design (FEED) and detail design of offshore projects.

ASOG will initially be staffed by specialist staff seconded from the parent companies but it will also recruit externally with the aim of employing up to 500 people by 2018.
