Australia’s Toombul project scoop Fleming Award

Presentation of work on one of Australia’s largest infrastructure projects helped a team from Arup, Benaim, URS Scott Wilson and RD Geotech win the Fleming Award last night.

The team gave a presentation of its work on the Toombul box jack, which involved pushing two 65m long, 21m wide and 12m high concrete boxes below a six lane rail embankment to create a new rail link to the airport in Brisbane. Also presenting at the ceremony last night were a team from the Tottenham Court Road upgrade and the M74 extension.

After the presentations at the ICE in London last night the judges withdrew to decide on the winner of the award, which is organised by Cementation Skanska each year in memory of Ken Fleming.

After the winner was announced the judges said they were fairly unanimous when it came to deciding on a winner.
