Crossrail’s Canary Wharf station box completed

Construction work on Crossrail’s Canary Wharf station box has been completed five months ahead of schedule by Canary Wharf Group (CWG).

Work on the 250m long, 30m wide box within the North Dock at Canary Wharf started three years ago in order to enable CWG to progress construction of its air rights development ahead of tunnelling work on the new rail line. Canary Wharf station will be one of the largest on the Crossrail route and the four storey above ground development will include up over 30,000m2 of retail space.

Tunnel boring machines operated by the Dragados Sisk joint venture are expected to arrive in the station box by 2013, where they will undergo maintenance before being relaunched at the other end of the station towards Farringdon. CWG will undertake the station fit out in 2015.
