Geofirma completes wind farm ground stabilisation contract ahead of schedule

Construction of a new 10MW wind farm near Hull has now progressed on to piling work following early completion of ground stabilisation work for the scheme.

Geofirma stabilised a 14,000m2 area of former agricultural land to create access roads and crane platforms at Burton Pidsea for parent company Blackwell on a contract for client Energie Kontor.

The site is to become a wind farm featuring three REPower 3.4M turbines which are expected to be operational by January 2014.

Geofirma used a mix of lime and cement stabilisation to minimise the need to import aggregates to create hardstandings for the scheme.

Work is now underway to install the 40 steel tubular piles to depths of up to 30m to support the turbines.
