Atlas Copco rig widens its appeal

Atlas Copco has announced that its Boyles C8C exploration rig is now available internationally following its debut at the China Mining exhibition in November last year. According to Atlas Copco, the new surface core drilling rig’s design focuses on power and simplicity to make exploration operations available to the broadest possible range of drilling professionals.

The Boyles C8C is equipped with a 133kN main hoist and a rod holder with a gas cartridge for long service life that handles rods from BO to PO size and casing up to PW. It features a proven and reliable rotation unit that can generate the highest penetration rate and a fourspeed gearbox that converts power into high torque.

Radio remote control is standard equipment of The Boyles C8C so that the tramming functions of the rig can be precisely controlled from a safe distance, eliminating the danger of being on or next to the machine while in motion. If radio contact is lost, tramming will stop automatically.

The rig offers a depth capacity of 1,830m and is equipped with a newly designed level-wind wire line winch which rolls the wire evenly across the full width of the drum. Another advantage is that the rig is designed to allow users to carry out service and maintenance functions in the field.
