Bauer’s quiet revolution

Demands on a recent project in Singapore have led Bauer to develop a low noise emission version of its trench cutter diaphragm wall rig.

The CBC 40 Silent Cutter is designed to work in limited space and is already proving its reliability by operating 24 hours a day on Songcheon’s work on a MRT contract in Singapore.

The upper carriage of the machine is only 8m in length to enable it to work in the street with only traffic management in place. The rig has also been designed to be modular to ease transport issues.

The hydraulic pack, which is normally rear mounted, has been relocated to the side of the machine to further reduce the size of the rig.

Although the CBC 40 Silent Cutter was a bespoke development, Bauer has said that a number of other customers have also expressed an interest in the quieter rig for use on urban contracts.
