Powerful yet lightweight is the promise made by the latest range of piling hammers to be launched by BSP International Foundations. According to BSP, the LX range has been developed to provide greater stability to piling rigs, especially in applications where a greater reach is required.
The three models - the LX30, LX40 and LX50 - are designed to drive steel, concrete or timber piles in a range of ground conditions. The 6.7t operating weight LX30 has a ram mass of 2.5t to offer 20kNm of impact energy, while the 7.2t LX40 has a 3t ram mass to deliver 27kNm of impact energy and the 8.2t LX50 has a 4t ram mass that enables it to deliver an impact energy of 33kNm.
BSP says the main feature of the new hammers is the total control of hammer stroke and blow rate to precisely match the energy to suit the pile driving requirements. The company adds that the hammers also have a highly efficient hydraulic system that gives low energy loss and a low running cost.
Other important features include optimum power-to-weight ratio and due to the cage and drop-weight design the hammers have a short overall length.
The hammers can be fitted with a single acting hydraulic system to give an equivalent stroke of 800mm, or alternatively a double acting cylinder can be fitted to give an equivalent stroke of 1.2m.
