Oasys adds seismic loading modelling to its Frew software

Software developer Oasys has updated its Frew package to add a fully-integrated option to perform seismic analysis to Eurocode 8 (EC8) for embedded retaining wall analysis.

The new version - Frew 19.2 - uses the two main methods for seismic analysis of retaining walls, Woods and Mononobe-Okabe and is also compatible with other international codes. The software can be used for the analysis of sheet pile, secant, contiguous or diaphragm walls.

Zeena Farook, applications engineer at Oasys said: “Determining the intensity of earth pressure on a retaining wall under a seismic effect, presents a complex challenge. Oasys developers have worked closely with Arup experts to review theory and coding and produce this new integrated release.”

Frew predicts the displacement, shear forces, and bending moments of the wall and calculates the earth and water pressures on each side at each construction stage. Advanced analysis options, such as carrying out integral bridge analysis or model wall relaxation, have also been developed for the latest version, which also supports the more recent building standards.
