Sandvik tools optimise drilling

Sandvik has developed a new GT60 tube system and a range of tailored rock drilling tools that it claims will help to maximise the potential of drilling rigs.

The Sandvik GT60 drilling tool and tube system has been designed to optimise the transfer of impact power from leading rock drills such as the company’s DP1100 and DP1500 drill rigs. It is also compatible with the typical piston size and power of other drills capable of similar performance. At the heart of the system are a new thread design and tailored drill steel dimensions that have been matched to transform impact power into very efficient rock-breaking performance.

According to Sandvik, increased efficiency in the tube system has sometimes resulted in increased levels of button breakage in the drilling tools but the company has developed a new bit design to avoid this. The Uniface bits combine the former flat face and drop centre to form a single universal design.

The company claims the new design offers superior rock drilling properties, more efficient flushing properties and improved distribution of energy to penetrate the rock.
