Welsh investment in high-reach drilling rigs

Colin Jones Rock Engineering, based in Porthmadog, has invested £200,000 in high-reach drilling rigs supported by £99,650 from the Wales economic growth fund.

The investment in new equipment includes a specialist mobile elevated work platform that can be remotely controlled.

The company will use the platform for work on rock faces repairs, anchoring and drilling, as well as slope stability, the installation of rock fall netting and grouting, and landslide repair works. The platform, which is currently the only one of its type in Wales, is capable of lifting 1.5t at a height of 30m and can support up to three people in the working basket.

Managing director David Jones said: “The new platform will save us haulage and hire charges so we can offer an enhanced, cost effective service to clients. Funding from the Welsh government was a great help and enabled us to go ahead with our plans to take the company to the next level while also creating more local jobs.”
