Keller’s De Waele to head up FPS

The Federation of Piling Specialists has announced that Keller managing director Jim De Waele has been appointed as its new chairman and takes over the position from Bachy Soletanche’s Martin Pratt.

De Waele believes that although the current economic situation has led to a testing 12 months for FPS members, the growth of the federation during this period indicates there is still a strong focus on standards.

According to De Waele, a key part of the FPS’s remit over the last 50 years has been to drive up standards in the industry. “Through the registration scheme the FPS regularly audits members for compliance against a comprehensive protocol, focussing on safety, quality, training, technical competence and more recently sustainability,” he said. “By sharing best practice among the member companies continuous improvement is assured.”

De Waele said that part of his tenure as president of the federation will be to focus the organisation on the next 50 years and widening its appeal. “While the name features the word piling, most of its existing members offer a wide range of geotechnical services,” he said. “The federation tackles various ground related issues, not just those confined to a piling discipline.  Geotechnical contractors of all types are potential beneficiaries from joining this wider body of excellence.”
