Fugro Seacore has been appointed to design, build and install for a new offshore met mast for the proposed Rampion Offshore Wind Farm.
The mast will be used to record and monitor site conditions at the planned wind farm site, which is located 13km off the Sussex coast in the English Channel. Fugro will focus on the design of the foundations for the new mast and is expected to subcontract the design of the met mast structure and steel fabrication.
Fugro Seacore project manager Dave Buzzard said: “The design we are working to is for a 46m long, 2.5m diameter steel pile, weighing 170t. We will be working in 20m of water, with our jack-up barge ‘Excalibur’ to drive the pile into the seabed. A T10 reverse circulation drill will be available onboard to supplement the hammering if drilling is deemed necessary.”
Work on the scheme is expected to be completed in April.
