Aarsleff has recruited the first two engineers to join its graduate training scheme with the appointment of Neil Humberstone and Simon Cottington.
The Aarsleff Graduate Training Scheme has been developed in partnership with Nottingham Trent University and more recently Leicester De Montfort University.
“Recruiting employees with the necessary ‘key skills’ has become increasingly difficult for Aarsleff, so we took the decision to establish our own programme and develop the talent we need to take the company forward,” said Aarsleff managing director Chris Primett.
“The shortage of skilled people is extremely worrying, not just for those involved in the construction industry, but for the wider economy. As fragile as the UK’s economic recovery is, it needs many talented people at all levels as well as a flow of new people to ensure it doesn’t falter. Establishing out own scheme is only a small effort, but we hope it is enough to inspire other companies to follow suit and establish the same or similar schemes.”
Both Humberstone and Cottingdon graduated from Nottingham and will have the chance to work in all areas of Aarsleff’s business during the year-long programme, including estimating, contracting, design, health and safety, and production.
