Balfour Beatty set to win Hinkley tunnelling deal

hinkley point c

Balfour Beatty has been announced as the preferred bidder fort the tunnelling and marine work on EDF Energy’s Hinkley Point C nuclear power station project.

Costain had been previously named as preferred bidder in 2013 but has now been replaced by Balfour Beatty. Neither EDF or Costain have commented on the change.

The four year package of work will include construction of three marine tunnels – both onshore and offshore – totalling over 9.5km in length and 7m in diameter to form part of the cooling system for the new power station.

Achieving preferred bidder status makes this the second major package Balfour Beatty will deliver at Hinkley Point C, following its appointment to the power station’s £460M electrical works package in joint venture with NG Bailey in 2015 which is already underway on site.
