Bam wins Munich wastewater tunnels contract

Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau – the German tunnelling specialist of Royal Bam Group – has won a wastewater tunnels contract in Munich, Germany.

The €20M (£17.8M) contract is for two tunnels with a total length of 2,180m to be constructed between 7m to 12m below the Landsberger Straße in the west of the city.

For this, Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau will use a hydro-shield tunnel boring machine with an external diameter of 3.6m. The project also includes the construction of a number of shafts.

Awarded by Münchner Stadsentwässerung, who are responsible for the construction, operation and administration of Munich’s sewer system and wastewater treatment plants, the project is expected to be completed by spring 2021.
