Munich traffic is now benefitting from work carried out by Bauer between 2009 and 2013 with opening this week of a 2.5km tunnel in the Luise-Kiesselbach-Platz area of the city.
Bauer started foundation work for the tunnel and the 400m long access ramps six years ago.
Bauer installed 21m long secant bored piles to form retaining walls for the cut and cover tunnel project. In total the company installed over 10,000 piles for the scheme with more than 25,000m of anchoring also installed along with jet grouting.
The new route, which is one of three tunnels on the Mittlerer Ring, will relieve traffic congestion in south west Munich. The area above the cut and cover tunnel where the roads used to run at grade has now been restored as a park area.
