Bauer claims to have strengthened the relationship between Vietnam and Germany following completion of a major ground engineering contract in Ho Chi Minh City.
The foundations work was for the 25 storey Deutsches Haus, which will be the official residence of the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as the economic and cultural focal point for German companies and institutions in Vietnam.
Bauer’s six month work on site included construction of a 45m deep diaphragm wall, a 33m deep secant piled wall formed from 800mm diameter piles and eight 1500mm diameter bored piles and 39 2m diameter grouted piles to depths of 60 to 80m to support the new building.
Tight timescales meant that Bauer had to complete the bored piles simultaneously with the secant piling work. The site is also close to existing residential tower blocks so work had to be planned to allow the site to operate 24 hours a day by drilling during the day and undertaking concreting work overnight.
