The British Geological Survey (BGS) has announced that it has appointed Tracy Shimmield as director of the Lyell Centre, which combines expertise from the BGS and Heriot-Wat University in land and marine conservation, geology and geoscience.
Previously both the BGS and the university had co-director roles to jointly lead the Lyell Centre but Shimmield’s appointment combines the position under one person.
According to the BGS, new appointment will strengthen the capacity for joint working between both organisations.
“I’m delighted that Shimmield will be in post as the Lyell Centre Director from February, working across both the BGS and Heriot-Watt University contributions to the work of the centre,” said BGS CEO John Ludden.
“This will build upon the strong foundations already in place, expanding the existing
collaborations and synergies that have been developed since the centre’s creation, and I look forward to seeing the Lyell Centre grow during this exciting new phase.”
