Elon Musk has said that The Boring Company shop, selling bricks made from tunnelling rock, will be open in the next couple of months.
The interlocking bricks will be made from excavated spoil from tunnel boring and, according to Musk, could be used as a surface finish to houses.
In a series of tweets, he said that the ‘First Boring Brick store opening in ~2 months. Only 10 cents a brick! Rated for California seismic loads.’ The bricks would be free for affordable housing projects and the first The Boring Company’s headquarters was currently in the progress of being built with the bricks.

The Boring Company website states that the company is investigating technologies that will recycle the earth into useful bricks to be used to build structures and potentially be used in tunnel lining.
In July, the start-up tunnelling company shared a video of the bricks in production.
At the time he said the interlocking bricks would be “rated for California seismic loads, so super strong, but bored in the middle, like an aircraft wing spar, so not heavy.”
Last week the company was granted planning permission to build a private prototype garage that will directly connect to the start-up’s proof of concept tunnel.
