Boring Company LA test tunnel to debut next week

The Boring Company has announced that it will officially open its test tunnel in Los Angeles on the 18 December.

In a tweet Elon Musk announced that the 4.3km test tunnel will be opening on 18 December.

Musk hinted that it would be more than a tunnel opening and would include “modded but fully road legal autonomous transport cars & ground to tunnel car elevators.”

The entrance to the 3.65m diameter tunnel is on private land and bored between 9.4m to 21m below ground.

Last month, the TBM named Godot was lifted from the test tunnel after it broke through to the vertical shaft in Hawthorne.

The test tunnel has been used for Boring Company engineers as a “proof-of-process” tunnel, to develop construction techniques, and system and safety testing of the transportation.
