Breakthrough achieved on Italy’s Campasso Tunnel

The Cociv Consortium, led by Italy-based Salini Impregilo, has announced that it has achieved breakthrough on the Campasso Tunnel on the new Milan to Genoa high speed rail link in Italy.

Breakthrough on the 600m long tunnel marks the completion of the first major infrastructure on the new 53km rail route, which includes 39km of tunnels

The breakthrough on the drill and blast tunnel was marked with an event attended by president of the Liguria Region Giovanni Toti, councillor for Public Works, Infrastructures and Roads Giacomo Giampedrone and Giovanni Costa, head of investment from the project’s Rete Ferroviaria Italiana.

The new rail route is part of the Terzo Valico Rhine-Alpine Corridor which is part of the trans-European transport Network (TEN-T).
