British Geotechnical Association declared outstanding

The work of the British Geotechnical Association (BGA) has been recognised with presentation of an international award.

Past BGA chairman Stephan Jefferis (second right) was presented with the award by ISSMGE president Charles Ng, chair of the organising committee for the Seoul conference Dong-Soo Kim and past ISSMGE president Roger Frank.

The BGA was announced as the winner of the Outstanding Member Society Award by the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE).

The accolade, which is only awarded every four years, was presented to past BGA chairman Stephan Jefferis during the recent ISSMGE conference in Seoul.

The BGA was singled out for the honour follow its successful delivery of the ISSMGE’s European conference in Edinburgh in 2015, as well as the encouragement it gives to its members through awards, the BGA’s contribution to ISSMGE technical committees and the BGA lecture programme. Contributions to the advancement of the science and technology of soil mechanics by BGA members through publications was also recognised by the award.
