Cambridge launches tunnel study to solve congestion

Feasibility studies on the construction an underground public transport system below the streets of Cambridge to solve congestion issues have been launched.

Greater Cambridgeshire Partnership and the Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority are looking at the potential of tunnels to create north to south and east to west transport corridors across the city.

The organisations have said that such a system could be for guided buses or for light rail.

The results of the study are expected to be reported in December.
