Preconstruction services specialist Central Alliance has developed a modular rig to overcome restricted and difficult access on site.
The rig was developed in-house and, according to Central Alliance, it can complete all the operations expected of a conventional rig, including standard penetration tests, cone penetration tests, sampling and dynamic probing.
The rig is powered by a portable hydraulic power pack that can be located up to 10m away from the rig. The mast height is 2.1m, which has been designed to allow it to work below overhead line electrification equipment.
“The modular rig has already been used on a number of projects, with many more scheduled,” said Central Alliance CEO Pete Bevils. “As clients become more aware of its potential and capabilities, it is opening up many new geotechnical opportunities especially on limited headroom sites, embankments and cuttings for roads and railways.
“Its innovative size and construction means it is also ideal for use inside buildings or basements.”
