A railway line extension to connect China and Nepal, which would include a tunnel under Mount Everest, is under consideration, according to Chinese state media.

The Qinghai-Tibet railway currently links China with Lhasa, capital of Tibet, and plans for an extension reaching the international border are reportedly already underway.

China Daily quoted a Tibetan official who confirmed the project is expected to be completed by 2020.
