Cityringen achieves major milestone

Italian contractor Salini Impregillo has celebrated the breakthrough of two tunnel boring machines (TBM) on a new metro link being constructed in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The breakthrough into the Copenhagen Central Station box marks a major milestone on the 16km Cityringen project.

Danish prime minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt was on site to see the two TBMs – named Eve and Minerva – break through into the new station box 30m below ground level.

The Cityringen line will be fully automated and operate 24 hours a day when it opens in 2019.
