Cowi aims to capitalise on growing tunnelling market

Growing urbanisation is creating a strong demand for tunnelling expertise and offers Cowi great potential for expansion, according to Cowi Tunnels senior vice president Jotham Vizard.

Speaking at a two day conference for Cowi engineers in Brighton this week, Vizard said that due to to urbanisation, tunnels and underground structures are essential.

“The market is growing, which creates a strong possibility for expansion,” he added.

Cowi strengthened its presence in the UK with the acquisition of Donaldson Associates last year, which followed on from its buyout of Flint and Neil in 2008.

During the two-day conference, topics such as successful tunnel boring machine selection and geotechnical baseline reports were discussed.

The aim of the event was to facilitate engagement, collaboration and life-long learning in line with the company’s strategy 2020. Discussions at the event also focused on how the business can combine forces and capitalise on the huge potential within the company in this growing market.
