Grand Paris Express project promoter Société du Grand Paris has said that the cutterhead for its fourth tunnel boring machine (TBM) has been successfully lowered into position at Arcueil-Cachan station.
According to Société du Grand Paris, the progress on site clears the way for tunnelling to start at the site on a section of the South 15 line in April.
The TBM will drive a 3.4km tunnel through Villejuif Gustave-Roussy station and emerge at Villejuif Louis-Aragon station.
The tunnel drive passes through a number of former mines that have been grouted to create competent ground for tunnelling. However, the tunnel drive will have to dive deeper below the underground river to maintain good soil cover.
