Farrans Construction and Civil Engineers has been awarded a £23M contract to construct a new open quay at the Blythe Estuary in Northumberland.

The contract includes site clearance, ground remediation, the construction of a deep berth extension with a new piled quay wall on land, and the excavation of existing soils.

Dredging will also be required between the dredge pockets and the tidal basin and a 10m wide open quay structure formed at the rear of the existing dock using tubular steel piles, the award notice said.

The completed project forms phase one of the Northumberland Energy Park which will become development land for land for energy-based industries, including the offshore and marine.
