FCC to construct Colombia's longest tunnel

FCC has announced that it will lead a consortium that has won a £280M contract to design, build, operate and maintain the Toyo Tunnel at Urabá Port in Columbia.

Construction of the 10km tunnel for the government of Antioquia is expected to take six years and the consortium will operate and maintain the tunnel for a further four years.

The tunnel forms part of a new 39km road between Santa Fe de Antioquia and Canasgordas with 16km in tunnels, including the Toyo tunnel, which will bethe longest in Colombia.

FCC has said that the works will substantially improve the connection between Medellín and the region of Urabá.
