Final floating foundation installed at Blyth

The last of five gravity based foundations have been successfully placed in position on the Blyth Offshore Demonstrator Wind Farm, according to project promoter EDF Energy Renewables.

The new “float and submerge” foundations were installed by Royal Bam Group are an industry first.

EDF Energy Renewables director of operations Don Mackay said: “This is an important milestone in a ground-breaking project. The Blyth offshore wind demonstrator project incorporates several new and innovative features as part of its role in testing and proving new and emerging offshore installation methods and technologies. In addition, the wind farm will benefit the local community and help the country to meet its low-carbon energy needs.”

Cable installation for the 41.5MW capacity wind farm, which is located 6.5km off the coast of Blyth in the North Sea, is now underway.
