First foundations complete for South African wind farm

Mainstream Renewable Power has announced the completion of its first 14 gravity base foundations for Noupoort wind farm, located in South Africa’s Northern Cape.

All 35 concrete and steel foundations are expected to be completed within the next few months.

The construction programme is being undertaken by the consortium of Murray & Roberts and Consolidated Power Projects.

Delivery of the 99m turbine towers is due to commence in October.

When complete, the 80MW wind farm is expected to generate approximately 305,000MWh of energy to the national grid each year.

Noupoort wind farm is due to be complete and operational by mid-2016.
