The Grand Paris Express project has reached a major milestone with arrival on site of the final parts for the project’s first tunnel boring machine (TBM).
The 100m long, 10m diameter Herrenkecht TBM is now under assembly at the Champigny Plateau shaft site.
The TBM will drive a 2.2km long connecting tunnel between the Champigny Plateau site and the Viliers-sur-Marne for the main Line 15 Sud which will be driven at depths of up to 20m below ground level. The project team is hoping to achieve tunnelling rates of up to 12m per day once the TBM is fully launched.
The 135t cutter head arrived on site in December with the final parts arriving last week.
