First monopile for Gemini wind project installed

Contractor Van Oord has said that it has successfully installed the first monopile for the Gemini wind project, which will be the world’s largest when it is completed in 2017.

The Dutch development in the North Sea will have 150 turbines spread over two areas of 34km2, located 85km off the coast of Groningen.

Water depths vary from 59m to 73m and each monopile has been designed for a specific location.
