Freeze-thaw blamed for Lusty Glaze slope failure

Geotechnical specialists have said that a rock slope failure on a Cornish beach was probably caused by freeze-thaw action following last week’s cold weather.

No one was injured in the rock fall earlier this week

The rock fall from the Devonian mudstone, siltstone and sandstone of the Meadfoot Group at the privately-owned Lusty Glaze resort near Newquay crushed a number of beach huts but no injuries were reported.

The resort has said that work is underway to clear the rock debris and an exclusion zone is in place but the beach and restaurant are open as normal.
