French rail infrastructure operator SNCF Réseau has started the search for a contractor to replace the Tunnel des Bouchots with a cut and cover structure.
Reconstruction of the tunnel using a secant pile wall and concrete slab roof forms part of electrification work on the Paris to Troyes line.
The 110m long Bouchots tunnel is the only tunnel of the route and reconstruction will create space for the overhead line equipment while maintaining road and ecological continuity above.
Documents published in the Official Journal of the European Union call for tenders to bid for the work, which involves demolition of the existing tunnel and installation of over 5,000 linear metres of secant piles with diameters of 600mm and 900mm.
Interested tenderers must express their interest by the end of April and slected bidders will be invited to bid for the work in mid-May.
Construction work is expected to take a year.
