Ground collapse repair underway in Bideford

Devon County Council has said that Bridge Civil Engineering has started work to repair a culvert that caused a ground collapse on private property.

The council said the collapse caused a “sinkhole” and the culvert failure poses a flood risk to nearby properties.

The council has said that it has stepped in to carry out the scheme on behalf of the land owners next to the watercourse due to the complex nature of the problem.

Repairs involve excavating and replacing more than 75m of damaged culvert and is expected to take 15 weeks to complete.
