Ground movement closes A59 between Harrogate and Skipton

North Yorkshire County Council has said that further investigations are needed following ground movement at Kex Gill on the A59 and that the road will remain closed while assessment work is undertaken.

Initial investigations were started last week by the council’s specialist consultant after ground movement was detected on the slope that resulted in the route being closed for several months in 2016.

Drainage was installed in 2016 to allow the route to reopen but a consultation was launched by the council last year to look at options to re-route the road. The council has said that the preferred route options out of 16 suggested are to be considered later this year.
