Grouting contract awarded for Gemini Offshore Wind Farm

Found Ocean has announced that it has been awarded the contract to grout the 150 monopile foundations for the 600MW Gemini Offshore Wind Farm for main contractor Van Oord.

Grouting work on the foundations for the 600MW wind farm which is 85km north of the coast of Groningenis in the Dutch North Sea is expected to start in June.

Found Ocean has said that the scheme will be the first use of a new grout material it has jointly developed with BASF to deliver high strength and low shrinkage.

Speaking about the use of Master Flow 9800 on the project Found Ocean managing director Jim Bell said: “Found Ocean and BASF recognised the demand within the offshore wind industry for a material that could provide high early strength development and low temperature performance, yet also offer increased efficiency, safety and cleanliness.”

The three year development project has resulted in a new grout material that is stored in silos rather than as a bagged product that eliminates weather impact on the work and the need for lifting facilities.
