Hornsea monopile manufacturer secures transition contract

Ørsted, formerly known as Dong Energy, has announced that it has awarded the contract for 86 transition pieces for the wind turbines on the Hornsea Project One wind farm to EEW Offshore Structures.

EEW, based in Teeside, has already manufactured the 174 monopiles for the project, which will create the first wind farm with a capacity of over 1GW.

Each of the transition pieces weighs over 400t.

Another 20 of the transition pieces will be manufactured by Teeside-based Wilton Engineering and a further 68 will be manufactured by Bladt Industries.
