Image gallery: Grand Paris Express TBM attracts huge crowds

Lowering of the first tunnel boring machine (TBM) on the Grand Paris Express metro scheme attracted crowds of more than 3,400 people.

Residents gathered at the Champigny Plateau site to see the TBM cutter head lowered into the 20m deep shaft.

Reaching the milestone on the scheme was celebrated with the event which included workshops, exhibitions and educational sessions for local children.

The TBM, christened Steffie-Orbival will drive a 2,178m towards Sentier des marins.
