Isolux Corsan, in consortium with Kolin İnşaat and Haif, has been announced as the preferred bidder for the Mecca Metro project in Saudi Arabia.
The €2.3bn (£1.6bn) contract is for the construction of Mecca Metro’s lines B and C and is expected to be awarded to the Isolux Corsan joint venture within the next few months, following official negotiations with the client.
The 11.9km Line B section of the contract will include the construction of three stations. The Line C section, covering 13km, includes the delivery of six stations and two interchanges stations.
The scope of the contract also includes the tunnelling programme, with the tunnels divided into different sections according to different construction methods. This involves 19,616m of mined tunnels, 4,105m of cut and cover tunnels, and 8,740m of tunnelling using a tunnel boring machine (TBM).
The project also involves the delivery of more than 1,175m of viaducts and pedestrian underpasses.
