Staff operating the 1908-built East Cliff Lift funicular railway noticed ground movements on Saturday

Bournemouth Borough Council said that staff operating the 1908-built East Cliff Lift funicular railway noticed ground movements on Saturday and closed the lift.

The council has said that the landslide occurred overnight before engineers could visit the site to assess the problem. Part of the seafront has been cordoned off as the council has said that material is continuing to fall from the cliff and geotechnical assessment of the failure is now underway.
