Landslide partially closes A859 in Scotland

A landslide on Monday evening has partially closed the A859 in south of Harris and Lewis at Tarbert, in the Western Isles.

The debris at the lanslide close to the Harris Hotel has been cleared off the road but there was still a risk of further landslides overnight.

The ongoing ground movement risk led Western Isles Council to close schools that use the route for access as a precaution but they are expected to reopen today.

After an inspection on Tuesday morning, one lane of the road was reopened.

A further inspection of the road will take place as heavy rainfall is forecast to fall over the past 24 hours.
