Landslide suspends Inverness rail services

Trains between Inverness and Dingwall have been cancelled by Scotrail following a landslide between Inverness and Kyle of Lochalsh last night.

Scotrail has said that inspections of the area are now underway but added that rail services are likely to remain suspended until at least tomorrow.

Scottish government transport minister Humza Yousaf said that around 40t of material had slipped onto the rail line and struck a train at 6.45pm last night. No injuries were reported.

Another slope failure near Wick this morning also resulted in some rail services being cancelled but the line has since reopened.
