PJ Edwards will start work on installing foundations for a new Medway bridge next week following award of the contract for the ground engineering work by main contractor Bam Nuttall.
The multimodal bridge forms a central part of a brownfield regeneration scheme being undertaken by developer Trenport and is partially funded by the government’s Local Infrastructure Fund administered by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
Under the deal, PJ Edwards will install piled foundations for two bridge abutments and two piers within the River Medway using cofferdams. In total 36 900mm diameter rotary bored piles will be installed to depths of 44m using segmental casing.
The new bridge will carry road, rail and pedestrian links between the new Peter Village residential development on a former cement works site with the A228.
