Mersey Gateway foundations take shape

The latest images released by Mersey Gateway bridge developer Mersey Link show the progress of the foundations on site.

The new 1.5km-long bridge between Widnes and Runcorn is being built under a DBFO contract by Mersey Link, which is a joint venture of contractors FCC Construccion, Kier Infrastructure and Overseas and Samsung C & T Corporation; funders Macquarie Capital, FCC and BBGI; and toll operator Sanef.

The images show the first concrete pour on the cofferdams for the central piers underway, as well as the start of precast concrete pile installation by Aarsleff.

The new bridge will relieve traffic on the nearby Silver Jubilee Bridge and is due to be completed in 2017.
