MH Wirth rig proves its worth in India

Piling work for the extension of Mumbai Port is benefitting from the use of a new MH Wirth PBA 615 pile top drill rig.

The company launched the new model last year to drill piles up to 2m in diameter for exactly this kind of project.

“With a performance optimised machine design the PBA 615 achieves more than 50% higher penetration rates than conventional solutions in the market,” explained MH Wirth India director Shakti Chand Verma.

The piling rig is being used at Mumbai to install more than 600, 1.2m diameter piles to depths of up to 45m for construction of the 2,500m long approach trestle. The piles are being drilled into Basalt with rock strengths of between 50MPa and 80MPa.
