National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) scientists are building a catalogue of landslides and need citizen reporters.
Nasa’s Global Landslide Catalog (GLC), part of the Cooperative Open Online Landslide Repository (COOLR) is the biggest open global landslide catalogue recording details of landslides from across the world.
According to Nasa a global picture of exactly where and when landslides occur does not exist, especially when they are small and there is difficulty in identifying their onset and extent, when no one is around to witness their impacts.
The COOLR project will cultivate an open platform where scientists and citizen scientists can access and share landslide reports to help raise awareness of landslide hazards to improve scientific modelling and emergency response.
Anyone can access to the database, learn more about landslides, and contribute to advancing landslide science and emergency response by adding their own reports.
