New Liebherr crane aids Malaysian foundations

Foundations specialists Geopancar has taken delivery of a new Liebherr crane to aid construction of a new slurry wall for the Kuala Lumpur MRT in Malaysia.

The Liebherr HS 8130 HD duty cycle crane is being used to lift 70t sections of steel reinforcing cages into position for the 400m long wall at the Titiwangsa station on the Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line.

“The primary use of the HS 8130 will be for excavating the slurry wall trenches and other foundation work,” said Geopancar general manager Chan Keong Wong.

“For this project however we are using the machine alongside the HS 855 HD which is carrying out the trench excavation.

“The lifting power of the HS 8130 HD is such that we can drop entire sections of the steel reinforcing cage, weighing 70t each, directly into the trench. We therefore save time because we can assemble the 6m wide sections above ground, and the entire trenching process can be carried out quickly.”
